RTMA & FLYAP PARTNER WITH NYMAT TO HOST “STUDENT DAY” FOR FIRST-EVER YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP WEEK
Showcase of the Latest Technology in Advanced Manufacturing

Fairport – The Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) and its Finger Lakes Youth
Apprenticeship Program (FLYAP) partnered with NYMAT Machine Tool Corporation to host “Student
Day” as part of the first-ever Youth Apprenticeship Week.

More than 100 students from more than a dozen school districts including several from the homeschool
community checked out live demonstrations and learned more about advanced manufacturing
opportunities in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region. Stations included 5-axis milling, turning
with live tooling, cobot programming, mechatronics for machine service and educational opportunities.
“As the Haas Factory Outlet for Upstate New York, NYMAT is happy to expose high school students to the
advantages of seeking a career in manufacturing,” said Brian Cregg, President of NYMAT.

Youth Apprenticeship Week highlights the benefits and value of registered apprenticeships for young
people ages 16 to 24. The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program has connected more than 850
youth to job shadows and paid co-ops at more than 125 local advanced manufacturing companies.
“Events like ‘Student Day’ allow the RTMA and FLYAP to continue the year-round conversation with
students and educators about the value of careers and training opportunities in advanced
manufacturing,” added Rich Turner, RTMA Director of Workforce Development. “By leveraging
partnerships with stakeholders like NYMAT, we are able to showcase the latest and greatest technology
in the industry for students and educators to take with them to their peers.”

The Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association promotes and supports manufacturing
innovation and growth in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region by partnering with industry,
academia and government. The Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program is an RTMA workforce
development initiative created to bridge the gap between students and local manufacturing companies.
NYMAT Machine Tool Corporation has been providing tool solutions for manufacturing companies since
1981.
