History and Past Presidents

RTMA History

Founded on March 13, 1945, The Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association was originally called the “Tool, Die and Special Machinery Association, Inc.”

The original directors were Wilson J. Tallman, Clarence H. Meyer, Jacob R. Phillippsen, Louis C. Petz, and Leonard E. Mingus.

The purpose stated for the formation of the association was:

“ To consider and foster the interests of the members in the tool and die industry; to reform abuses relative to thereto; to secure freedom from unjust or unlawful executions; to diffuse accurate and reliable information as to the standing of merchants and other matters; to procure uniformity and certainty in the customs and usages of the industry and of those having a common trade or business, and to settle and adjust differences between the members and others and to promote a more enlarged and friendly intercourse among members and others engaged in similar business.

To do anything necessary and proper for the accomplishment of objects herein set forth or which should be recognized as proper and lawful objectives of this organization, all of which shall be consistent with the public interest, as well as in the interest of the industry and trade.”
